Independent bottler Wemyss Malts launched the Nectar Grove Blended Malt earlier this year. This is an odd product in that it is a blended malt that has been finished in seasoned Madeira casks.
The bottle label and packaging are inspired by Portuguese ceramics; this is due to the fact that Madeira is a Portuguese island. So there you go.
The Nectar Grove Blended Malt was launched March 19, 2017. This is a limited run of 9000 bottles. The single malts that make up this blended malt are all from the Highland region of Scotland.
- Nose: Rather rich from the first sniff. Noticeable malt, fruity and slightly floral. Bananas and grapes. The richness mainly manifests as honey. With time it is more floral and perhaps also a bit perfumed. It is a pleasant "perfume" though, think fresh citrus spray mist.
- Taste: Medium body, oily mouthfeel. The citrus is more pronounced than on the nose. Orange zest and lemon juice. Grapes glazed with honey.
- Finish: Medium long finish. Sort of fades away in a pleasant way. Not much in further development, other than a touch of dark chocolate and ginger.
